Anti-trans rally in Melbourne

Erin Reed tweeted on Jun 13, 2022: "Deplatforming works. Radicalization happens via convenience. You find the content that radicalizes people into hate by wandering across it on a platform you consume trusted content on. Deplatforming cuts that process off."

"No, the existence of an optional course at a university you choose to attend for grad school is not "indoctrination," nor is reading abt things that happened & discussing them—which is what the course actually consists of. The same might be said for Irish, Italian, Jewish, & countless other immigrant groups of the 19th & 20th centuries deemed initially nonwhite, only to relocate under the aegis of whiteness by aligning against Black Americans & newer generations of migrants. Not new. And in fact, today's your lucky day, bc the last book on my syllabus, Daniel Martinez HoSang & Joseph E. Lowndes, Producers, Parasites, Patriots: Race and the New Right-Wing Politics of Precarity, analyzes this phenomenon re Trumpism."

On May 29, 2023, in response to a Patrick Strudwick article that said Kellie Jay-Keen (aka Posie Parker) "staged a mass Nazi salute" at her Melbourne "Let Women Speak" rally, Rowling posted a four-paragraph statement on Twitter. She said: "Actual Nazis have turned up on the fringes of Let Women Speak events for exactly the same reason aggressive, narcissistic trans activists are there. These groups closely resemble each other." She ended by encouraging KJK to sue: "It's high time those peddling lies like Strudwick's are held accountable and I sincerely hope @ThePosieParker takes action."

Of course, this is deliberate nonsense. The Nazis at the Melbourne rally in March carried a banner that said "Destroy Paedo Freaks," an anti-transgender sentiment that complemented KJK's anti-transgender platform and remains consistent with Nazis' historically genocidal antipathy toward trans/queer people. Nazis were not there "for the same reason" as trans counter-protesters were there. They were there for the opposite reason. Nazis have always been, and remain, hostile to trans people.

Courtney tweets on May 29, 2023: These Nazis doing the salute had just gone to Posie Parker's anti-trans rally, where they stood with her and were not ejected by her or any transphobes.
Lilah TheyPG tweeting in response to JK Rowling saying Nazis weren't invited to Posie Parker's rally: Hi JK, I was at that rally, you were not, would you like some of my personal footage from the day? it'll make you look a wee silly though. People from the 'Let Women Speak' crew were shaking hands with, getting selfies with and patting the backs of the Nazis who they invited
Not only did Posie know there was a chance Nazis would come, she refused to disavow them ahead of time because 'everyone is welcome' that everyone included Nazis and all the people on her side cheering them on. You can't gatecrash something you were invited to.

J.K. Rowling responded by expressing hope that trans people and our defenders will be guillotined.

Mr Strudwick has forgotten to share this on Twitter, so it would be nice if people could help him out. Rowling shared a screenshot: Editor's note: The original version of this article reported that 'an anti-trans rally organised by British 'gender critical' campaigner Kellie-Jay Keen staged a mass Nazi salute'. We are happy to clarify that Ms Keen, the organiser of the Let Women Speak event in Melbourne, did not stage a mass Nazi salute. The group of masked men who did so in the vicinity of the event was neither invited by Ms Keen nor endorsed by her. We apologise to Ms Keen for this error.
