On February 6, 2024, the European Commission (part of the EU’s executive government) "announced one of the world’s most ambitious goals to slash planet-heating pollution ... backing a 90% cut in carbon emissions by 2040, from 1990 levels, taking a stance that is likely to set a benchmark for developed nations around the world. ...
