A bit about C. Peter Wagner's influence

From Tal Lavin's Wild Faith, Chapter 3: Prophets in the Parlor:

From the wellspring of the charismatic and Pentecostal movements has grown a more directed and explicitly political project that aims to combine politics and Christendom under the mantle of prophetic inspiration. The New Apostolic Reformation, or NAR, aims to establish a new branch of Christianity that makes contemporary prophets and apostles central to the faith. NAR also explicitly aims to establish a kingdom of Christ on Earth, gaining as much temporal power as possible. The term emerged out of a 1996 conference of five hundred evangelical leaders in Pasadena, California. It was coined by a white-bearded theologian, C. Peter Wagner, who publicly espoused a vision of all-encompassing spiritual warfare. In 2011, he told NPR's Terry Gross that the tsunami that had engulfed Japan and threatened it with nuclear disaster had arisen because Japan's emperor had had sexual congress with a demonic sun goddess. Prophets, ministers, and evangelists who support NAR's principles, along with those of similar movements, have embedded themselves deeply within the Republican Party.

Another place you can learn about C. Peter Wagner is in this documentary on YouTube, which I described:

On Jan 15, 2026, the American Humanist Association sent out an email with this info:

Why does this moment matter?

  • The Department of Homeland Security is declaring we share “a nation and a Savior.”
  • The Pentagon is hosting Christian worship services during government time.
  • ICE agents are pairing Bible verses with arrest threats.
  • Lawsuits are advancing that could make religious charter schools federally funded — and coming to your community.
  • The U.S. Department of Labor is echoing fascist slogans: “One homeland. One people. One heritage.”

That's how theocracy takes hold: normalize it, embed it, dare anyone to object. And if you aren’t on board, you’re not part of “we the people.”
