By the end of 2022, Alabama had received over $450 million from American Rescue Plan Stabilization Support. The American Rescue Plan is a covid-era economic stimulus package signed by President Biden in early 2021. The money was allocated to over 1,500 child care programs in all but one of the state's 67 counties. The child care centers mostly used the funds to pay their staff, allowing the child care centers to remain open, which in turn allowed parents to return to work. About 90,000 children may have been affected by this funding. (Source: PDF)

Now Ivey wants to spend $100 million for prisons that Alabamians were told they'd already paid for.
Out of money meant for schools."
