"Everyone is talking about the BBC editing out a “protect the dolls” t-shirt on Strictly Come Dancing, debating whether they’re transphobic or not, well I’m an ex BBC presenter and an ex man so I’m one of the only people who can ACTUALLY answer that question and I’m going to tell (and show) you.

My documentary, commissioned by the BBC, was called Transitioning Teens. It was about the 7+ year wait list for a first appointment with the NHS (to just discuss transitioning) that trans people (specifically trans teens) were facing, forcing many to take their transition into their own hands or take their own lives. I’d link the doc here but I can’t because despite it doing incredibly well making it to number 8 on the i-player chart DURING THE FUCKING OLYMPICS (like no shade but Drag Race doesn’t even hit the top 10 these days!) the BBC REMOVED it from the internet. I don’t even have a copy. Over 2 years of my life from start to finish on that doc... for nothing."
It’s lucky it was even up on i-player for the short time it was, because I was told that if Tim Davie was head of the BBC when my doc was being commissioned it wouldn’t have been commissioned. [Note: He became director general of the BBC in September 2020.]
Am I saying he banned my doc because he is transphobic? Absolutely not! That would be ludicrous.
On a completely separate note, not at all related to that- Tim Davie famously banned all BBC employees from attending Pride*.
*After massive uproar in the media he then backtracked and said gay pride was allowed but trans pride wasn’t because it was a protest and too political.
This sentiment, of gay being okay but trans being “too far”, has always existed and strictly-t-shirt-gate is the perfect example of it...
