This morning, Jon Stewart’s video dismantling the Arkansas attorney general on trans rights and mentioning the SAFE act by name has over 5 million views. On other platforms an additional million.

I grew up watching him change politics.
We needed this level of journalism badly.
This is very good. Definitely the best thing he's done on this show. https://t.co/DjsW1LQNbD

There were many powerful moments in Jon Stewart's special on trans people.

But the where Jon tells Arkansas AG Rutledge that he would go through hell or high water if he had a trans kid, and that her law was "antithetical to the values she professes to espouse."
I cried. pic.twitter.com/YfKJUMaMdQ
Jon interviewed Leslie Rutledge, Arkansas Attorney General, about why her state banned gender-affirming care for minors - ignoring the guidelines of major medical organizations and taking the decision out of parents’ hands. Watch the full interview on @AppleTVPlus pic.twitter.com/4SoH3orWa6

Whew the Ovarit folks are really pissed at the Jon Stewart special destroying their arguments and anti-trans laws. pic.twitter.com/1yUEmmJpB6

Everyone needs to stop what they are doing and watch @jonstewart's show on trans people. (free, appleTV)
— Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) October 7, 2022
Out of the gate he acknowledges his problematic past.
Then proceeds to go harder than I've ever seen any celeb go in demolishing the arguments.
Thank you Jon. Sincerely. pic.twitter.com/OYdrYOX1A6
I’m a cis guy and got gender affirming care when I was a teenager. I started growing boobies on my guy body (nature’s weird) and it was ruining my life. My conservative dad and I went to the doc and took care of it. Made my life 10x better

This was 20 years ago in rural Maine https://t.co/VuMgpjPLvt
transmisogyny is so bad that trans people are unironically going “hooray! A famous cis man just copy pasted all of the arguments we make every day! People will listen to him!”
— Stacy Cay (KC 10/15) (@stacycay) October 8, 2022
I'm not really shitting on that Jon Stewart interview, because fair play for the take down, but I do find it amusing that it takes a middle aged establishment white cis man to get the points across.
— Alma (@LaGlitch) October 8, 2022
The Jon Stewart interview is good, but the whole genre to which it belongs (The Daily Show, Good Liars, etc.) betrays liberals’ faith in shaming and fact-checking as political tools—neither of which works when your political opponents have no shame or regard for facts. 1/
— Paul M. Renfro (@pmrenfro) October 8, 2022
i'm still not a fan of jon stewart but i do think he's literally the first cis person i've ever seen who openly acknowledges the hurt he's done to trans people, and then put in any amount of effort to right the wrong.
— Lissa (@two_n_minus_one) October 8, 2022
that just .. doesn't happen. ever.
Watch the whole episode.

Jon does some additional important things:
-Calls himself out
-Identifies the political tactics underlying this conversation
-Talks to experts
-Is hilarious throughout https://t.co/z1ThWibGOE
OK, so I just watched the entire Jon Stewart episode, and I have a few thoughts... https://t.co/YM3kYi8xXC

sorry to share a Jon Stewart clip in 2022 but unfortunately this rules and also whips https://t.co/UkSZr363C2
— Montucky Woodsnacks (@tuckwoodstock) October 8, 2022
My respect for Jon Stewart has shot through the roof seeing clips from this. He's doing what should be seen as the bare fucking minimum from anyone who's actually interested in protecting kids, but right now in the current fascist-stoked culture war that makes him a hero. https://t.co/mRqSeQ2tq5

In addition to departing from the media norm of letting lying politicians go unchallenged, Jon Stewart’s team decided to actually learn a lot going into this episode so they understood the lies and also the reflexive biases we all carry. Let this be a model to everyone else.
— Chase Strangio (@chasestrangio) October 8, 2022
I can’t begin to describe what it feels like to finally see someone with this kind of influence and credibility interrogate and stand up to the lies & ideology that have been actively harming trans youth. This is what we’ve been waiting for. Begging for. I am overwhelmed. https://t.co/dRE67L9duT
— Jen Richards (@SmartAssJen) October 8, 2022
I'm glad Jon Stewart did that interview, but more than anything, I think the corporate media should be humiliated that Stewart has produced such a rare example of high profile, responsible coverage of this topic, when so many shows & publications have wholly failed on this issue.
— Puff the Magic Hater (@MsKellyMHayes) October 8, 2022
In a lot of ways Jon Stewart’s interview on trans kids reveals how intellectually lazy and dishonest the NYT, Atlantic, Reuters, etc have been in their trans care moral panic stories. Cis writers carrying water for bigotry while positioning themselves as objective reporters.
— Ana Valens (@acvalens) October 8, 2022
It is a great episode. It should be applauded but also understood as a model. It seems novel because Stewart demoed an example we’re desperately missing: coverage that acknowledges humanity and doesn’t budge to bullshit. It’s embarrassing that a comedian is doing it better. https://t.co/cc2Yscx2DG
— Jared Holt (@jaredlholt) October 8, 2022
Find it telling her interactions with the media thus far on this issue led her to believe she could make wildly false claims without being asked to provide any evidence for them. Anti-trans talking points are so paper thin because they're used to being coddled by reporters. https://t.co/BbwCNp5CcL
— Gillian Branstetter (@GBBranstetter) October 8, 2022
This is something else. The relief that it exists, that someone with that kind of clout, clarity and voice made it and that it’s so profoundly logical that anyone who disagrees with it will be shown up for the bad-faith actors they are - it’s just so necessary. https://t.co/ob43lFlH5c
— Sara Gibbs (@Sara_Rose_G) October 8, 2022
Incredible. Jon Stewart eviscerates an anti-trans attorney general and now journalists are competently pointing out the same problems with anti-trans legislation that activists have been pointing out the last 6 years. https://t.co/0t6mFLwN1R
